Today is an awareness post. People often talk about relapse, but not enough people talk about what happens just before it. Over the last few days, I let a resentment build up. It grew and grew until, within three days, I went from feeling strong in my recovery to nearly relapsing. They say one of the biggest causes of relapse for addicts in recovery is resentment, and I can see why. My old behaviours came back. I shouted. I screamed.
